Material Type Unlike flexible containers (pouches) that use multiple layers, this type of rigid container is manufactured using a blowing or injection process using only one main material for the body:
Container Body (PET - Polyethylene Terephthalate): This is the most used plastic for this type of containers due to its "crystallinity". High quality PET imitates the clarity of glass, but is significantly lighter and does not shatter.
Tape (PP - Polypropylene or HDPE): Ribbed lids like the image may be made of Polypropylene, as they are a harder plastic that allows the thread to not deform when tightened.
Liner (Coating of the cover): Although it is not seen in the image, to seal liquids or food products, the cover requires an internal disc. It could be a pressure seal (Pressure Sensitive) or an aluminum induction seal (Induction Seal) that requires a heat machine to stick to the edge of the packaging.
Main Features
Capacity: 14 oz (approximately 414 ml). It is a very versatile size, common for body creams, octopuses, spices, or thick food products.
Boca Ancha (Wide Mouth): The diameter of the opening is often the same as the diameter of the body of the bottle. This greatly facilitates both the industrial filling process and consumer access to the product, allowing the use of spoons or fingers (in the case of cosmetics).
Straight Walls (Straight Sided): The cylindrical design without "shoulders" and complex curves makes the application of wraparound labels very senile and without the risk of wrinkles.
Resistance and Properties of Barrera
Protection Barrier: PET offers an excellent barrier against gases (oxygen and carbon dioxide) and humidity. However, although it is completely transparent, it does not offer any protection against light (UV rays).
Physical Resistance: It is very resistant to impacts. Unlike glass, if it falls to the ground it will rebound or collapse, but there will be no damage. It is a rigid container, but if it is tightened with great strength, the walls will give way slightly.
Thermal Resistance: This is its main limitation. Standard PET does not withstand high temperatures. If it undergoes hot filling processes at more than 60-70°C or is exposed to prolonged extreme heat, the packaging will visibly deform or shrink. It is not suitable for microwaves, but it supports refrigeration and freezing perfectly.
Recyclability: PET (recycling code #1) is one of the easiest and most profitable plastics to recycle worldwide.
